The goal of the game is to build all eight ordered suits from King down to Ace in the Tableau, each ordered suit being automatically sent to a foundation as it's completed.

The rules of the game are straightforward: any suited run can be placed into an empty column, and groups of one or more consecutive cards can be moved at a time within the Tableau. When the player manages to arrange a complete suited run from the King down to the Ace, it is automatically placed into a foundation location for storage.

The game starts with a pile of 54 cards dealt into each Tableau column, six into the leftmost four columns and five into the remaining six columns. The top (bottom-most on-screen) card in each pile is face-up while all the rest are face-down. The goal is to empty the Tableau of all cards by building ordered suits.

Spider Solitaire has its name from the fact that spiders have eight legs, just like the game has eight foundations. It's a complex game that requires problem-solving skills, but it can also be played at an easy level for those who want to relax and be entertained.

The computerized version of Spider Solitaire became very popular following its inclusion into Microsoft's Windows 98 Plus, and it remains one of the most played solitaire games today.
